PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical active body detecting device wherein, regardless of modulation angle or signal intensity, accurate rotatory polarization is obtained. SOLUTION: A sample 9 in a flow cell 8 is irradiated with linear polarized light modulated with a frequency f (modulation angle±δ) at a Faraday cell 4, polarization direction is rotated by a specified angle (rotatory polarization)α, and the light is, through a photo-sensing element 10, photo-detected with a photodiode 11. Signal V1 (V2), based an the detected signal when modulation signal is maximum (minimum), is held with the first (the second) sample holding circuits 21 and 23. When V1-V2 is calculated with a differential amplifier 24, V1-V2=A0 (4αδ), that rotatory polarizationαis derived from the expression.
