PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable continuous operation of disintegrator and continuous and voluminous production of high bulk density granular detergent composition by kneading dried particles containing surfactant in the presence of a powdery builder having a specific particle size. SOLUTION: (A) Dried particles containing a surfactant, preferably a sulfonate salt of a fatty acid lower alkyl ester of the formula (R<1> is an alkyl; R<2> is a 1-3C lower alkyl; M is a counter ion, preferably alkali metal ion, particularly Na<+> ) is kneaded in the presence of (B) a powdery builder with an average particle size of <=250μm, preferably calcium carbonate, magnesium sulfate or zeolite to prepare (C) a kneaded product of 20mm-2mm penetration hardness. This kneaded product is crushed and granulated to give a detergent composition containing 0.5-10wt.% of component B.
