PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a carbon-containing refractory in a high yield without causing cracking, etc., by using a thermosetting resin high in carbonization yield and forming a molding high in bulk specific gravity. SOLUTION: This method for producing a carbon-containing refractory comprises blending a raw material mixture of an inorganic material of refractory and a carbonaceous material with a thermosetting resin as a binder containing ethylene oxide in an amount of >=5wt.% and <50wt.% or a mixture of the ethylene oxide and an alcohol an organic solvent, molding and baking the prepared molding in an non-oxidizing atmosphere. The carbonaceous material is preferably pitch and the thermosetting resin is preferably a phenol. |
