PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a condensed ring pyrrole which has been unable to be synthesized by reacting a common aromatic nitro compound low in reactivity with an isonitrile. SOLUTION: This condensed ring pyrrole of formula I (R is a 1-6C alkyl, benzyl or tosyl; Ar is benzene, naphthalene, acenaphthylene, pyridine, pyrimidine, quinoline, etc.) is obtained by reacting an aromatic nitro compound of formula II with an isonitrile of the formula CN-CH2 CO2 R in the presence of an iminophosphorane-based base (e.g. tert-butylimino-tri(pyrrolidino)phosphorane) in a solvent (e.g. THF) in an inert gas atmosphere (e.g. nitrogen gas) at -80 deg.C to 140 deg.C. The compound of formula I is readily converted into a polypyrrole or porphyrin useful as a light and an electron functional materials and is useful as an organic intermediate and an intermediate for medicines and agrochemicals. |
