PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of detecting an ink residue accurately even in such a state that an ink contained in an ink tank can not be still. SOLUTION: This printer device is composed of a printer head 1, a recording paper 2, a carriage unit 4, a head position detecting sensor 3 arranged near the carriage unit 4 and designed to detect the position of the carriage unit (printer head), an EEC 5, a guide fail 6, a group 8 of ink tanks for supplying an ink or a diluent through a supply pipe 7, and an ink residue detecting mechanism 9 for outputting a detecting signal in accordance with a residual ink quantity remaining in the ink tanks. In addition, a control means (CPU) controls the operation to detect a detecting signal only when the carriage unit 4 is located at a specified position, so that the residual ink quantity is stably detected. |
