The frame has a base (10) formed as a parallelepiped rectangle which carries fixings for vertical uprights (16,18) on its opposed lateral faces (12,14). The vertical uprights are connected by a cross member (32) which is adjustable in height. The cross member carries wires (40) which support conjunctivo-scleral pincers (42) which can be fixed in the median limbic areas of the conjunctiva to hold the eye open. The base has, on its upper surface, a pad (62,64,66) to immobilise the animals head.
