PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an arbitrary document, generated by general application software, to be perused and decrease the amount of information transferred for the perusal. SOLUTION: In this document storage device 2, a document storage means 2b is stored with a document consisting of plural pages prepared by a document preparation device 4 in such electronic document format that at least one set of image data is held in page units. When a document perusal device 1 issues a perusal request, a perusal request receiving and analyzing means 2a receives the perusal request and analyzes the request contents. The requested electronic document is acquired in page units from a document storage means 2b and processed by a document processing means 2c into form corresponding to the request contents, and an answer data generating means 2d generates answer data in which reference information whose page can be specified when a next perusal request is issued is embedded. The answer data in the page units are transmitted by a document transmitting means 2e to the document perusal device 1. |
