PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required to make passive distance measurement. SOLUTION: A range finding device performs calculation of active distance measurement and includes a passive distance measuring means h to make passive measuring in case calculating results of satisfactory reliability are not obtained, wherein the arrangement comprises an electric charge accumulation time judging means J to judge if the time of accumulating the signal electric charges is minimum, a lapping number judging means K to judge if the lapping number is below a certain value and an appropriate amount of electric charges is accumulated when such electric charges are to be accumulated while they are orbiting, and a result deciding means L which decides the measuring result to the predetermined value on the basis of the outputs of these means J and K, and thereupon the measuring result is decided to the predetermined value. When an appropriate amount of electric charges are accumulated while the lapping number is below the specified value, the time for measuring the distance from the applicable object A located remotely can be shortened. |
