PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare gas discharge lamp and its manufacture by which a manufacturing process can be mechanized through a comparatively simple construction, and productivity can be significantly enhanced. SOLUTION: A rare gas discharge lamp is provided with a straight tubular envelope 1 which has a luminescence layer 2 on the inner face thereof, and a sheet body structure 3 in which one pair of belt-like outside electrodes 5, 6 made of a metal member are mutually parting arranged on one side face of a translucent sheet 4 which has a nearly same length with the whole length of the envelope 1 and the thickness of which set in a range of 20 to 100μm. The sheet body structure 3 is brought into close contact with the outer peripheral surface of the envelope 1 so that outside electrodes 5, 6 are positioned between the envelope 1 and the translucent sheet 4, and the end portions 4a, 4b of the translucent sheet 4 are overlapping bonded so that productivity is improve and the peeling of the end portions is prevent.
