The belt has a flexible strap (1) of rectangular form with a central part (2) and two lateral parts (3,3'). The central part, which covers the vertebral and para-vertebral regions, is of greater width and has vertical lines of stitching (40,40') perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the strap. Each of the lateral parts (3,3') has, centrally and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the strap, a line of stitching. This extends horizontally from the end of the lateral part (3,3') to adjacent to the vertical line of stitching of the central part closest to that end.
