IMAGE RESOLUTION CONVERTER, DECODER AND IMAGE RESOLUTION CONVERSION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for a circuit to convert a coefficient into a pixel and then to restore the pixel into a coefficient again by combining an original space frequency coefficient with a value calculated in advance so as to directly map the result onto a new space frequency coefficient. SOLUTION: Coded image data expressed in plural 1st space frequency coefficients(SFC) are stored in a memory 10 and fed to a converter 140. The converter 140 extracts a value PCV being a calculated value to decide a change in the resolution of the image stored in a memory 40 from the 1st resolution into the 2nd resolution. Then the value PCV is combined with plural 1st SFC value to generate plural processed values and some of the generated values are combined to generate at least one of plural 2nd SFC values. Furthermore, the plural 1st SFC values and the plural 2nd SFC values may be discrete cosine transformation(DCT) coefficients.
