PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent violation of privacy such that a caller hears conversation or the like around a called party without being noticed of by the called party by inhibiting an extension reply automatically when a sound volume of extension speech call is set to 'OFF'. SOLUTION: When a handset is hooked off, a changeover circuit 19 connects the handset 7 to a network circuit 6 and also to a telephone line L. Thus, a speech is made by the handset. When a hand-free key 14 is operated to allow the changeover circuit 19 to connect a loudspeaker 8 and a microphone 9 to the network circuit 6 and to the telephone line L. Thus, hand-free speech is made available. In the case that the setting mode of an extension setting switch 15 is set to the voice call mode, when a sound volume setting switch 16 is set to OFF and no reply is obtained by hooking off the handset 7, the extension speech is not transferred.
