PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain communication between virtual LANs not via a router. SOLUTION: A filtering table 18 is provided with an area storing a network layer address, and in the case of receiving a packet, the type of the packet is checked. When the packet uses the same network layer protocol as the network layer address stored in the area, a transmission source MAC address of the packet, a port number, a virtual LAN number and the network layer address of the transmission source are registered in the filtering table 18, which is used to discriminate relay of packets.
