PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict the heat generation at the part of a heat roller which does not contribute to fixing in a heating area and, therefore, to prevent local heating of the heat roller. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a heat roller 3 containing a cylindrical roll body 6, insulated heating layers 7a and 7b, each being provided in an area of the roll body 6 which corresponds to the range of the passage of a recording medium of each size, and electrode patterns 8a and 8b for the heating element 7a and 7b, respectively. According to the size of the recording medium to be passed, the heating layer 7a or 7b is independently fed power, Thus, only the heating layer 7a or 7b matching the size of the recording medium to be passed is heated, the heating layer 7a or 7b which does not contributes to fixing is prevented from being heated, and thus a local heating of the part is prevented. |
