PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an isolator which simultaneously satisfies conditions of a high extinction ratio, miniaturization and lower cost. SOLUTION: This isolator consists of a polarizer 1, an analyzer 7, a Faraday rotator 8, a permanent magnet 9, a holder 6 for containing these elements and a holder ring 2 for position adjustment. The surfaces exclusive from a range within 100±20μm from the front surface 5 of the flanks 11 of the polarizer 1 and the analyzer 7 are metallized. The polarizer 1 and the analyzer 7 are joined and fixed to the holder ring 2 via the metallized parts 4.
