PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the yield of production by stabilizing electromagnetic conversion characteristics. SOLUTION: This magneto-resistive head has a magneto-resistive layer 6 which detects the signal magnetic field from a magnetic recording medium by using a resistance change, a soft magnetic bias layer 4 for impressing transverse bias electric fields to this magneto-resistive layer 6, a longitudinal bias impressing layer 7 for impressing longitudinal bias magnetic fields to the magneto-resistive layer 6 and an electrode layer 8 for supplying a sense current to the magneto-resistive layer 6. The soft magnetic bias layer 4 consists of a material having uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in a transverse direction and the magnitude of its anisotropic magnetic field is <=20[Oe]. |
