PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a pager function through the use of a transceiver of a cellular telephone set by pausing the operation of the cellular telephone set so as not to receive a speech of the cellular telephone set and starting periodically the cellular telephone set so as to receive a message from a network control channel. SOLUTION: The user sets a mobile terminal equipment 10 to the pager mode. The terminal equipment 10 shuts off its output signal for a cellular network and allows it display device 20 to display 'pager mode in operation'. The terminal equipment 10 enters a low power consumption operation mode and activates a timer. The timer is programmed to interrupt a control section 18 periodically. When a temporary interruption time comes, the terminal equipment 10 restores a power-on state automatically and receives a message from the cellular network. This message is stored in a memory 24 so as to be displayed later for the user. When a temporary interrupt end time comes, the terminal equipment 10 enters again the low power consumption operation mode.
