ACTIVE MATRIX SUBSTRATE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To embody a matrix substrate for obtaining a liquid crystal display device having excellent image quality by improving an opening rate and diminishing the capacitance of the capacitors formed between the wirings of switching elements and light shielding layers. SOLUTION: Black matrices 2 consisting of Cr are previously formed on a glass substrate and transparent display electrodes 4a, TFTs and the row wirings 7 and column wirings 8 thereof are formed thereon via SiO2 films. The active matrix substrate is provided with the black matrices 2, by which the opening rate is improved and the black matrices 2 are provided with discontinuous parts. The superposed parts of the black matrices 2 and the row wirings 7, colunm wirings 8 are divided to small parts, by which the capactance of the respective capacitors formed in these superposed parts is made smaller. The signals of the row wirings 7 and column wirings 8 interfered via the capacitance are made small in proportion to the capacitance and the deterioration of the images of the liquid crystal display device is suppressed.
