The device has a computer (16) with a hard disk storage device, which operates as a computer server. The computer is controlled by the network operating software. A digital data communications path (18) is connected to the computer, and to at least one further client computer (24) at the far end of the path, with a video data reproduction device such as a monitor (34). The device can be controlled so that video data can be called up from the server by the client computer, and stored in the client computer storage devices, or directly evaluated without entering the storage devices.
