<p>A filter element (5) is provided. The filter element (5) generally includes a first liner (30), a region of filter media (27) positioned downstream from the first liner (30) and a screen arrangement (38) positioned along a portion of the first liner (30) downstream surface (40) and oriented to block a portion of the first liner (30) to flow directly therethrough and into a portion of the filter media (27) directly associated therewith. Preferred elements are generally cylindrical, having expanded metal outer (30) and inner (31) liners with pleated paper media (27) positioned therebetween. The preferred screen arrangement (38) comprises a polymeric sleeve partially embedded in one of the end caps (25). Also according to the invention an overall filter arrangement or assembly (1) is provided. Such an assembly (1) includes the filter element (5) as well as a housing (4) and a precleaner (12) arrangement.</p> |
