A CPU (11) mounted with a geometry transfer engine (GTE) (17), a main memory (12), a main DMAC (Direct Memory Access Controller) (13) and an image processing unit (GPU) (15) are connected through a main bus (1). Programmable packet engines (PPE) (112 and 152) capable of changing the procedures of packeting/unpacketing data are provided to input/output units of the main CPU (11) and the GPU (15), so as to perform packet transfer having a freedom in the packet mode. In such a way, expansion/packeting of the packet data can be effected efficiently with freedom of packet format, and graphic processing can be also effected efficiently.
