<p>An improvement in the reliability of a sector IDless method and a disk drive capable of achieving rapid frame synchronization. A disk (101) has a plurality of segments (frames) in its rotating direction, and each of the segments is provided with a servo area in which to record servo information and a data area in which to record user data. A segment ID code (105) is recorded in an address area in the servo area at intervals of four segments. The segment ID code (105) is a code which has information indicating the frame number (segment number) counted from the origin, and is recorded together with a CRC code. The disk drive can rapidly achieve frame synchronization by detecting the segment ID code (105) of the disk (101), thereby making it possible to restrain, for example, a decrease of the transfer rate at which recording/reproduction is performed over both sides of the disk (101). In addition, during writing, the segment ID code (105) can be used to detect out of frame synchronization and control can be transferred to emergency write inhibition, so that it is possible to rapidly avoid erroneous writing in the sector IDless method.</p> |
