A lapped product having laps (8) of a web (1) is made using novel apparatus in which the product is fed to the underside of a permeable carrier (3, 20) and each lap is formed by holding the web by suction to the underside of the carrier as the carrier and the web move above and across a collector (7) and then dropping a length of web onto the collector as a lap (8a, 8b) by releasing the suction. The web (1) can be continuous or it can be formed of discontinuous lengths (36).
