A variable valve timing control device 1 includes a camshaft 17 for actuating an intake valve 19, and an inner gear 31 is provided with the distal end of the camshaft 17. A sprocket having a first surface 45 and a second surface 47 surrounds the inner gear 31. A ring gear 33 is placed between the camshaft 17 and the sprocket 27. A cover 32 is fixed to the inner gear 31, and the cover 32 defines a first hydraulic pressure chamber 52 between it and ring gear 33. A flange 35 is provided with the inner gear 31, and the flange 35 defines a second hydraulic pressure chamber 53. A first clearance C1 is defined between the first surface 45 and the cover and communicates with the first hydraulic pressure chamber 52. A second clearance C2 is defined between the second surface 47 and the flange 35 and communicates with the second chamber 53. An intermediate surface 46 is provided on the sprocket 27, facing a direction opposite to that faced by the second surface 47 in the second hydraulic pressure chamber 53.
