A clock (H) delivers pulses having a period (T) and digital circuits (2,3,4) count the number of complete pulses between starting and finishing signals (D,F) to produce a rough measurement of the time interval. Analogue circuits (6,8,10,12,14) are used to determine the starting and finishing unmeasured intervals. The analogue circuits generate a number (N) of linear ramps which have the same period as the clock (T) and are displaced from each other by a time T/N. The starting and finishing times coincide with the central flat portion of at least one ramp and amplitude measurements enable the starting and finishing unmeasured time intervals to be determined from the known ramp slope.
|
