PURPOSE: To obtain a projection type display device which is of high picture quality and easy to handle and whose system is compact by providing first to third liquid crystal valves, a color synthesizing means and a projection optical means. CONSTITUTION: A green light entering a translucent prism 30b transmits through a semitransparent film 47 as it is, a blue light is reflected on the film 47 to be made enter a translucent prism 30a. A red light entering a prism 30a is reflected by a semitransparent film 48 and green and blue lights transmit as they are and then red, green and blue lights are synthesized in the optical axis of a lens 31 to be made to advance to the lens 31. In respective liquid crystal panels 33 to 35, when a television signal is used, since video signals subjected to a color demodulation are inputted to panels in which respective corresponding filters are arranged and then transmissivities are controlled therein, lights subjected to the color synthesis and made to advance toward the lens 31 are subjected to a color adjustment and are enlarged to be projected on a screen 32. Moreover, since respective optical paths from the liquid crystal panels 33 to 35 to the lens 31 are arranged so as to become equal, pictures of respective liquid crystal panels 33 to 35 coincide on the screen 32. |
