In the transfer of heat between a running filament yarn and a medium, the yarn, twisting on its long axis is led through an axially parallel stream of air whirling in the opposite direction to that in which the yarn is being twisted. Heat may be imparted to or extracted from the yarn, and two whirling streams of air may be used to transfer heat to and take heat up from the yarn successively, before the yarn is subjected to a false twisting operation. The quality of the yarn is improved by blowing the whirling compressed air in the opposite direction to that in which the yarn is being twisted, and a suitable device for generating whirling stream of gas described in DT OX 2546708 has a chamber with tangential inlets arranged round the circumference of the chamber. At the sides there are an ilet and an outlet tube, so that the whirling action can be maintained, the tubes being long relatively to the chamber. The yarn can thus be kept in contrast with the whirling air for a comparatively long period and the ends of the tube farthest from the chamber are constricted. |
