The heavy oil fraction hydrocracking catalyst contains 20-99 wt.% of a matrix, 1-80 wt.% of a 2:1 dioctahedral phyllosilicate containing fluorine, 0-30 wt.% of zeolite Y and a catalytic element. The 2:1 dioctahedral phyllosilicate is synthesised in fluoride medium in the presence of HF acid and at pH 0.5-6.5. It has: (a) a general formula (for a half unit cell) of: M(m<+>)x/m((Si(4-x)Tx)(T2G.1)O10(OH(2-y)Fy))(x < -> ) where T is a compound formed by an element from Group IIIA of the Periodic Table and iron, M is a compensation cation from the reaction medium, or introduced by an ion-exchange technique chosen from cations of Groups IA, IIA and VIII of the Periodic Table, proton, organic cations containing nitrogen, ammonium and rare earth cations, m is the valency of M, x is an integer between 0-2, 0 < y ≤ 2, and G represents an octahedral cavity; and (b) an X-ray diffraction pattern consisting of the following peaks: one peak with dhkl = 1.49 plus or minus 0.015 10<-10>m; two other peaks with dhkl = 4.46 plus or minus 0.002 10<-10>m and 5.56 plus or minus 0.015 10<-10>m; and a 001 reflection such that d001 = 12.5 plus or minus 3 10<-10>m, depending on the compensation cation and its hydration state; (c) a fluorine content such that the F/Si ratio is 0.1-4; and (d) an NMR signal in magic angle rotation of <19>F at -133 ppm ( plus or minus 5 ppm). Also claimed is a process for preparation of the catalyst and a process for hydrocracking of a heavy oil fraction.
