<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new modified saccharide capable of easily binding a saccharide to a compound bearing hydroxyl group, amino group, etc., and useful as e.g. an acylating agent, by binding a hydroxycarboxylic acid through ether linkage to the 1-site of a saccharide and protecting the other hydroxyl groups with protective groups. SOLUTION: This new modified saccharide is obtained by binding a hydroxycarboxylic acid to the 1-site of a saccharide and protecting the other hydroxyl groups with protective groups and expressed by formula I (R<1> is hydroxyl-protective group)(e.g. tetraacetylacetic acid oxyglucoside) and useful as an acylating agent capable of easily binding a saccharide to a compound bearing hydroxyl group, amino group, etc. This new modified saccharide is obtained by reaction of a saccharide of formula II (Y is 0R<1> , a halogen or substituted S) with a glycolic ester to form an ester derivative of formula III (R<2> is a lower alkyl, etc.) followed by hydrolyzing the ester group of the ester derivative.</p> |
