<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply produce 2-amino-3,3-diarylisoindoles widely used in the chemical and medicinal fields in good yield. SOLUTION: 2-Amino-3,3-diarylisoindoles are represented by formula I (ring A is a benzene ring which may be substituted with a halogen, an alkyl, etc.; Ar is a monovalent group of an aromatic monocyclic hydrocarbon or an aromatic polycyclic hydrocarbon which may be substituted with phenyl, naphthyl, etc.; R is H, an alkyl or an acyl), e.g. 2-amino-3,3-diphenyl-2,3-dihydroisonidol-1- one. These compounds of formula I are obtained by reacting 2- aminophthalimides of formula II (e.g. 2-aminophthalimide) in the presence of a Lewis acid in a solvent of an arene compound represented by the formula, Ar-H (e.g. benzene, toluene, etc.) to introduce two aryl groups into the isoindoles.</p> |
