PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an absorbent having a large org. chloride absorbing capacity and a sufficiently high rate of absorption by using bentonite and zinc oxide as principal components in an absorbent for removing org. and inorg. chlorides from a flow of industrial fluid. SOLUTION: In a process for treating a petroleum fraction with a chloride treatment catalyst, an absorbent obtd. by compacting a mixture of bentonite with zinc oxide is used at the time of absorbing and removing org. chlorides flowing out of the catalyst. The absorbent contains 20-95wt.% zinc oxide and 5-50wt.% bentonite as principal components and further contains one or more kinds of basic compds. selected from among basic alkali metallic compds. and basic alkaline earth metallic compds. as subsidiary components. The total concn. of the basic compds. is <=50wt.% (expressed in terms of oxides). The basic compds. are, e.g. sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium hydrogencarbonate and calcium hydroxide.
|
