STAINPROOF CRYSTALLIZED GLASS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crystallized glass with a stainproof coating with excellent durability and stainproof properties. SOLUTION: A crystallized glass is coated with a stainproof coating prepd. by dispersing simiconductor photocatalyst particles in a matrix consisting of a titania-silica glass. A photocatalyst is photo-excited in the daytime by irradiation of the sun light and the surface of the stainproof coating is made ultrahydrophilic thereby. As the ultrahydrophilic surface is hardly electrostatically charged, soot and dust hardly adhere to it. During rainfall, the soot and the dust adhering to the surface are washed out by rain water and the surface of the crystallized glass is self-cleaned. As the coefficient of thermal expansion of the titania-silica glass is close to the coefficient of thermal expansion of the crystallized glass, there exists no possibility of peeling-off of the stainproof coating even when a cycle of cooling and heating is applied.
