PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a steel chord exhibiting no significant drop-off of its overall elongation at break in reinforcing an elastomer such as a radial tire. SOLUTION: This steel cord 10 for reinforcing elastomers is composed of steel filaments 12, 14 with perlite texture, satisfying the following relationship: (y)-0.50<=(x)<=(y)+050 [(x)% is the plastic/elastic elongation of the chord at break; (y)% is the plastic/elastic elongation of the chord possible in an elastomer subjected to curing]; this means that the coverall elongation at break of this steel cord exhibits no significant drop-off even embedded in an elastomer. |
