A double seaming apparatus for seaming a can end (E) to the open end of a can body (B) is formed with a pair of annular seaming tools (3, 4) which closely surround the can end and can be moved laterally from a first position coaxial with the can end to a second position in which they engage the periphery of the can end. The can end is driven to rotate about its axis and when the can end and an annular tool are brought into engagement, they both rotate about their respective axes and roll relative to one another. |
