PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a water-base polymer emulsion which can form a film excellent in water resistance and adhesive properties by copolymerizing a monomer having a sulfonamide group, i.e., a highly hydrophobic polar group, with another monomer. SOLUTION: This polymer emulsion is formed essentially from a sulfonamide monomer having a polymerizable double bond and another monomer having a double bond copolymerizable therewith. Pref. the amt. of the sulfonamide monomer is 3-50wt.% of the total monomer copolymerized. An example of the sulfonamide monomer is represented by formula I (wherein R<1> is a group represented by formula II or III; R<4> is H or methyl; and R<2> and R<3> are each independently H or a 1-12C alkyl), N-alkylstyrenesulfonamide or N,N- dialkylstyrenesulfonamide being esp. pref. |
