A carrier system for supporting one or more substantially moisture impermeable soft body armour panels on the torso of a wearer is formed from front and back vest portions. Each of the front and back vest portions is itself constructed from a single panel of fabric having moisture wicking ability, which single panel is folded about its axially transverse midline and securely joined about its respective non-folded edges to form a pocket within which one or more of said soft body armour panel(s) may be inserted. The front vest portion is adjustably, releasably fastened to the back vest portion by cooperating, releasable fastening means mounted on each of the front and back vest portions to form the carrier system. In use, the carrier system provides a more comfortable garment than previously known, as each vest portion is capable of channelling perspiration away form the body of the wearer around the soft body armour panel by wicking such perspiration around its respective axial transverse midline to the outer surface of the carrier system whereat evaporation may efficiently occur.
