The pylon anchoring system has several sets of plates (6) that are embedded in the ground. The plates are in groups distributed round the base of the pylon, and are shaped so they are retained in the ground when they are either in traction or compression. The plates are connected to the pylon upright by radial rods (7), and the plates are transverse to these rods. Each of the plate groups is attached (5) to a diagonal support (4) to create a rigid structure with the pylon and the plates. This prevents flexing of the pylon below the point where the diagonal support meets the pylon. The pylon upright is tubular to provide access inside the tube for maintenance.
