The handgrip (1) is substantially U-shaped with a horizontal bar which can be pivoted about its two end mountings (2) against the opposition of a coil spring in one of the pivots (4). Each hinge has an axis (7) passing through the hinge body (6) between the two limbs (8) of the end of the handgrip. The body has teeth (9) at the end protruding into a cavity (5) to engage the toothed wheel (10) of a viscous damping brake (11) which retards the return of the hinge to its rest position. The axis (12) of the brake may be either parallel (as depicted) or perpendicular to that of the hinge.
