The internal combustion engine has a reciprocating piston with a connecting rod, which is joined to a crank pin on a crankshaft (5) by a split head (3,6). Each part of the latter has a cylinder (1,8), with a piston (2,7) which has a bearing shell casing on its opposite end.The bearing shells (4) are supported on the crank pin, and both hydraulic cylinders may have a hydraulic connection to one another via a pressure regulator which is fixed to the head. The latter may have a cylinder (19) with a grooved (23) piston (16) and an adjusting screw (13), and may have spring-loaded valves (18,21) and pipes (15,17,20,22)
