<p>A device for protecting persons and property in homes, industrial facilities, buildings and the like from natural and accidental disasters by means of sealing barrier walls urged into engagement with sealing surfaces around the openings in the building or the like. Each barrier wall consists of a metal frame (10) embedded in moulded plastic (13) to form a wall and coated with a rubber shell (14) having a rubber bead (8) around the edges thereof. The rubber-coated rigid wall (4) is urged against the sealing surface (2) by cross-members (5) engaging bars (3) in the opening, as well as by screw assemblies (6). Said device is useful for creating a confined space and protecting buildings from disasters such as floods, hurricanes, radioactive leaks, etc. Said barrier wall may be made of new or, in the case of plastic or rubber, recycled materials.</p> |
