Polyphenol- and sterol-free mixtures are prepared by: (i) grinding Eugenia jambolana Marck seeds, macerating with hot lower aliphatic alcohol, recovering the insoluble polyphenol- and sterol-free component, treating with ammonia solution, followed by a hot lower aliphatic alcohol, filtering, recovering the insolubles and drying to give mixture (I); and optionally (ii) treating (I) with aqueous lower aliphatic alcohol, filtering, partially concentrating the filtrate, purifying on non-polar adsorbent resins, partially concentrating, centrifuging, ultrafiltering and isolating to give mixture (II). |
