<p>Spectroscopic apparatus for successively analysing each of two or more samples (3) in liquid or fluid form, including an optical system having a member (1) which is immersible in a body of a sample (3) and input and output paths (5, 7) connected to that member (1). Each optical path (5, 7) is formed at least in part by fibre optics. A light source (10) is operable to generate a beam of light which is directed to the immersible member (1) along the input path (5) and the member (1) is operative to cause the light beam to pass through a portion of the sample body within which the member (1) is immersed and thereby produce a residium beam which is directed out of the sample body along the output path (7). Detector means (11) receives the residium beam and thereby determines characteristics of the sample (3) from which that beam results. Control means (21) is operable to move the aforementioned member (1) between two or more sample bodies in a predetermined sequence so that the detector means (11) sequentially determines the characteristics of each sample.</p> |
