The invention relates to a device (1) for changing the duration of opening and closing of gas-reversing valves in an internal combustion engine. It is intended to avoid disadvantageous rattling caused by very frequent abutment of the adjusting piston (9) of said device in its "late" abutment position due to a lack of hydraulic pressure during start-up, using simple means. According to the invention, it is therefore provided to position a slide (19) in a driven unit (12) of the device (1), which slide acts on radially and externally acting coupling means (24). Said coupling means (24) can be moved with partial regions of the surface (27) thereof into a recess (26) of an adjustment piston (9) of the device (1), thereby preventing the adjustment piston (9) from making further axial movement when it reaches its "late" abutment position until the device (1) has been sufficiently refilled with hydraulic medium.
