Reactive power compensation in AC networks

The compensating method includes a measuring circuit for measuring the reactive power or the power factor. An evaluation circuit compares the measured values of the reactive power or the power factor with desired values. A switch switches a number of capacitors in and out at the AC network, depending on a fault signal, which represents the difference between the measured and the desired values. Respective regulating deviation signals, representing the altering of the fault signal, depending n the switching in of a specified number of capacitors are determined and are stored in an allocated storage place. With a successive occurrence of a fault signal, the capacitor or capacitors of which, or their stored regulation deviation signals, selectively switch in or out the capacitor or capacitors, until the fault signal is reduced to zero. The regulation deviation signals for the individual capacitors with a first time switching in, are periodically determined at specified time intervals.
