USE OF POLYCARBOSILANES FOR STABILISING ALKENYL POLYSILANES

The air and particularly oxygen and/or heat stabilisation of compositions containing polysilanes or polysilane mixtures as ceramic precursors or "preceramics", is disclosed. The problem to be solved is that of providing a means for effectively stabilising preceramic polymers such as alkenyl polysilanes and polyvinylsilanes (PVS) in particular, while maintaining their cross-linkability and enabling their later use for producing ceramics with a high yield. The problem may be solved by using polycarbosilane (PCS) to stabilise a preceramic polymer such as an alkenyl and preferably vinyl polysilane. The PCS constitutes at most 50 wt % of the PCS/alkenyl preceramic mixture.
