Ground water barrier

A sub-soil barrier having a semiconductor for water treatment or for use as a hydraulic seal, incorporates precipitated iron-ochre or humite minerals. The barrier is built up and/or stabilised by a process in which a semiconductor barrier is subjected to an electrical potential field, the current outflow zone being in the anode zone of the potential field, and the incoming current entering through the cathode zone of the potential field. The barrier is used to treat ground water, drinking water, other water supplies and waste water, to protect ground water and to act as a hydraulic seal.
