Digital transmission system using continuous phase modulation

The system includes a receiver (20) which converts (21) an incoming RF signal to baseband, followed by a detector (24). A phase detector (25) and sequential decoder (29) detect the signal and convert it to digital words. The sequential decoder has a feedback circuit which removes intersymbol interference introduced by differential detection reception. The sequential decoder includes a Viterbi decoder which operates using a reduced number of states and has a negative feedback loop which improves the calculation precision.
