PURPOSE: To obtain a new polypeptide, having a specific amino acid sequence, capable of manifesting hepatitis B virus (e) antigenicity and antigenicity close to that of a natural product, and safely available in a large amount at a low cost by using a transformant containing a recombinant DNA. CONSTITUTION: This new polypeptide has an amino acid sequence represented by the formula, etc., and is capable of manifesting the hepatitis B virus (e) antigenicity and useful for diagnosis and treatment, etc., of the infection with hepatitis B virus. The polypeptide is obtained by culturing a transformant comprising a recombinant DNA, containing a promoter, a translation initiation codon and a DNA capable of coding the polypeptide capable of manifesting the hepatitis B virus (e) antigenicity on the downstream side of the promoter and a termination codon connected to a site just after the DNA and having a sequence of ATCGGGC between the SD sequence of the promoter and the translation initiation codon and recovering the polypeptide capable of manifesting the hepatitis B virus (e) antigenicity from the resultant cultured product. |
