The intermediate fixing plate (100) used in the forming of building facings composed of facing plates consists of a strong element. This element has a rectangular rear face (101) with a region for supporting against the building wall and a rectangular front face (102). Each face is folded along its vertical edges to form two webs (101a-102b) which are welded together. The front face carries two projecting parallel transverse rails opening respectively upwards and downwards. Each rail is able to receive one or two facing plates by their corresponding edges. The front face also carries projecting spring flaps (116a-117b) for locking the facing plates in position on the rails in each of three dimensions. The locking flaps are arranged to allow elastic return by free expansion of the facing plates in the three dimensions. The intermediate plate has a hole (103) for the passage of a fixing bolt.
