There is a method of detecting the light emission of electrochemiluminescence from an electrochemiluminescent material which is excited by the reaction of production and elimination of ions in a cell from an electric reaction with a liquid specimen which is an electrolyte composed of the electrochemiluminescent material and an electrochemiluminescence enhancer. In particular, the method comprises the step of controlling a current, which runs across the liquid specimen. <IMAGE>
